How did I get into S gauge? Like many others out there my age, I found the box in the attic when having to clean out my grandparents or parents house. The trains were in rough condition and I knew nothing about them, so I turned to the internet and went from there. Initially, I would send out engines to be fixed, but through the help of YouTube and some great online communities I have moved to doing my own work. The hobby, while still new, is exciting and I enjoy the challenge of working in S. It is a great scale and we need to work to keep it alive and well!
Do I have a layout? Well, yes sort of. I have a layout that I bought as a package deal with some trains. I have added on to the table and made it larger, but having no real plan as really challenged the ability to move it forward. I will probably be taking it down and rebuilding with something more modular and planned.
What else? I have many hobbies, to which my wife would say too many! My son and I love these trains, but also the real ones. We love the New Haven line and former New York, New Haven and Hartford stuff. When not working full-time as I teacher I'm also a volunteer fireman, Danbury Railroad Museum volunteer, and Union President. I am currently also infatuated with 3D printing and not only what I can do with it, but how it can help the S gauge lineage. And I have a YouTube channel called DougDoesStuff where, well, I do stuff! Give me a like and follow!
